To and From: This report called the Franck Report was written by the following people: J. Franck, D. Hughes, J. Szlilard, T. Hogness, E. Rabonowitch, G. Seaborg, C. J. Nickson. These people wrote this report and it was written to the secretary of war in June of 1945.
Summary: The Franck Report is a report that talks about the issue of dropping an atomic bomb on Japan. It talks about how you can't hide the nuclear bomb from the country for very long, they are going to need to know about it eventually. It talks about how the rest of the countries will have nuclear weapons and we need to establish a control over nuclear weapons in the country. It says that if we drop the bomb and the country doesn't agree with dropping the bomb, it could turn out bad. It talks about the consequences of nuclear warfare.
  • In the preamble, it talks about how there have been many inventions and scientific develpments in the past but the development of nuclear weapons and power is different that the development of the rest of these inventions like flying. It is extremely more dangerous. This type of destruction is related to the attack called Pearl Harbor.
  • In the Prospectives of Armaments Race section, it says that if we use nuclear weapons, than the only way that we can be protected from other nuclear weapons is if we make the other countries not want to attack us by dispersing the industry and population of the major cities in the country, this will decrease the want of another country to attack us.
